The West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board is a regulatory agency created by an act of the West Virginia Legislature in 1990. The law, titled the West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Act, can be found in Chapter 30, Article 38 of the Code of West Virginia. The Appraisal Management Company Companies Registration Act can be found in Chapter 30, Article 38A of the Code of West Virginia. It became law July 1, 2014.
Our mission is to protect the public interest by assuring that all consumers of real estate appraisal services receive such services from appraisers who are fully qualified in accordance with both Federal and State law and appraisal management companies who are registered and in compliance with State law.
The West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board consists of nine members appointed by the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. Each member shall be a resident of West Virginia, except for the member representing appraisal management companies; four members shall be real estate appraisers, two members from financial institutions, two members from the public-at-large and one member representing appraisal management companies.
